5 Habits That Changed My Life For The Better

Updated: May 3, 2021

Lets talk habits!

If you've ever participated in my coaching program, you know building healthy habits are key to creating the life you want and seeing your life change for the better.

If you look at your life, you'll see it is made up of your daily habits. Most peoples habits look like, rolling out of bed to check social media and emails. Instantly feeling stressed and overwhelmed by all that was consumed in the first 10 minutes of your eyes being opened. Rushing to work, drinking too much coffee, skipping breakfast and lunch just to come home, grab take out and sit on the couch watching blue light and consuming useless information until its time to go to bed and do it all again. (I know because this was me for most of my life. and its usually my clients too, when we begin working together.)

Your life is a direct result of your habits.

SO... What if you implemented a few new habits into your life that will help you grow, level up, become happier, healthier and more in control of your life?

Below, I picked my top 5 habits that I built when I first began my health journey. I only picked 5 for a very important reason - YOU CAN'T DO IT ALL. Often, when people are ready to take control of their lives they go ALL IN and try to implement 20-50 habits at once!

I see it all the time, "here's 50 habits to start creating" "100 habits of successful people" "25 habits of fit girls" Thats great and all to have that many healthy habits and don't get me wrong, thats the goal!!! But, there is no way you are going to be able to build 100 sustainable habits at once.

The key to making your habits actually stick?

Slowly implementing them into your life.

As humans we always think we can take it all on. And then when we realize we can't, we chalk it up as a failure and don't try again. What if, you picked only a few things to do? What if you tried to build one habit, and then two, and then five and then 10? Chances are, taking it slow is going to improve your success rate.

Pick two habits from below and focus on them for 30 days. Then come back for more. I promise, this will change your life.

1. BUILD A MINDFUL MORNING ROUTINE

This one is huge. And truly the number one habit that has changed my life for the better. Check out this book to help build your own morning routine. A morning routine gives YOU time to spend filling up your cup with what you need before the day gets crazy. It lowers stress and improves productivity and is shown to also improve happiness!

2. EAT AT HOME

I always like to say, focus on what you can control (when it comes to food). What can you control? Whats inside your home! Most restaurants are using low quality foods and oils to prepare dinner for you that aren't nourishing and cause inflammation. You can control the quality of food in your own home. Building the habit of cooking home cooked meals more than you eat out will do so much for your health. I like to go by the 80/20 rule. Eat at home 80% of the time and enjoy eating out the rest. Check out my "dinner recipes" on the blog for some inspo!

3. MOVE YOUR BODY

Movement is HEALING. mentally and physically. It also is HEALTHY! for your mental and physical health. Most people think they have to punish themselves and workout until they're ready to throw up. But really, movement can be simple. Try 30 minutes of walking or 15 minutes of stretching. Don't overcomplicate it, just move in a way that feels good TO YOU. and please, don't workout to punish yourself. Celebrate that your body can move!

4. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT YOU AND BUILD YOU UP

The easiest way to change your habits and views about yourself is changing who you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with people who believe in themselves and are doing the things you want to be doing. As time goes on, you'll start to believe in yourself more. ADD into your life. in all areas. Including adding good people.

5. START JOURNALING

This will change your life in the best way possible. I know a lot of people think journaling is "woo woo" or boring but its the best way to reflect and dig deep into what's really going on in your life. With journaling, you can create the life you want by uncovering what makes you who you are. You can dive deep into what changes you want to make in your life and really understand yourself and your own actions. Journaling is my favorite tool for reflection and growth. Just start! not sure where? Here are some journal prompts to get you started. It can also be as simple as writing whatever comes to your mind!

___________________________________________________________________________

Constantly elevating in areas that matter to you will keep bringing you closer to being the best version of yourself. Building sustainable habits will help you keep going when motivation isn't there. Because, news flash! Not everyone is motivated all the time ;)

Slow and steady wins the race. If you missed a day or two, don't give up - keep building!!!

I hope this post sparks inspiration for you to start building healthy habits. If you still need help with this, lets chat!
